WATCH: Fan storms stadium to hug Cristiano Ronaldo during Portugal’s Euro 2024 training

The highly-anticipated UEFA Euro 2024 has commenced with hosts Germany defeating Scotland 5-1 on Friday night at the Allianz Arena. The 2016 champions, Portugal, are scheduled to open their Euro 2024 campaign against the Czech Republic on Tuesday with all eyes on legendary Cristiano Ronaldo, who is likely to feature in his last European championship. During their training session ahead of the Czechia clash, a fan invaded the pitch to meet his idol, Ronaldo.

Portugal are among the tournament favourites to lift the 2024 Euro title and improve their championship record to 2 titles while Cristiano Ronaldo could also extend and break many records.

Ahead of Portugal’s clash against Czechia at the  Red Bull Arena Leipzig, Roberto Martinez’s side underwent a training session in Germany. Reportedly, 50,000 fans requested tickets for Portugal’s training session on Friday, with 6,000 free tickets being sold out in seconds. During the training session, a lucky fan got a chance to meet his idol and hugged him after storming the field. The fan was later escorted out by the security.

Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portugal received a warm reception in Germany for the Euro 2024 and the five-time Ballon d’Or winner took to social media to thank the fans. Ronaldo posted pictures from Portugal’s training session and wrote, “It really feels like we’re still in Portugal! Thanks for the support.”

Ronaldo is the leading goal-scorer in Euro history with 14 goals to his name while he is in the second spot in overall assists (7) and chances created (41). Apart from that, the 39-year-old is just five goals away from reaching the historic milestone of 900 goals, which no player has reached after the off-side rule was introduced in football.
