The European Championship has been blessed to have some of the greatest goal-scorers in footballing history. These stars have dominated world football by consistently finding the back of the net for the clubs or their national teams while bringing this magic to the Euros. 

With the 2024 edition of the continental tournament kicking off with some high-scoring games, let us look back at the  Players with Most Goals scored in a single UEFA Euro edition.

Michel Platini – 9 goals

Topping the list is France legend Michel Platini who smashed 9 goals in the 1984 edition of the European Championship. In his home tournament,  Platini showcased his magic by scoring two hattricks in the group stage against  Yugoslavia and  Belgium. Then in the knockouts, Platini scored the winner against Portugal and then in the final opened the scoring against Spain before the Les Bleus doubled their lead to win the tournament.

Antoine Griezmann – 6 goals

Behind the Frenchman is another superstar from France,  Antoine Griezmann finished with six goals in Euro 2016 and took the Les Bleus to the final. The Atletico Madrid star burst into world football as he was named the Player of the Tournament alongside winning the Golden Boot for his impressive goal tally and two assists. But this dream campaign wasn’t as the French were defeated by Portugal in the final.

The third entry on the list includes five names who have scored five goals in a single edition of the European Championship. Portugal’s  Cristiano Ronaldo and Patrik Schick of Czechnia are the newest members of the five-goal club which the pair achieved in Euro 2020 (2021) but failed to win the title. Then going back two decades, Serbian forward  Savo Milosevic and Dutch star Patrick Kluivert also netted five goals. Before these two editions, England’s  Alan Shearer in 1996 and Netherlands’  Marco van Basten in 1988 also scored five times in the Euros. Out of this illustrious list, Van Basten is the only one to win the Euro after scoring five times in that tournament.
