Former India bowler David Johnson who played two Test matches for India passed away at 52. Johnson, who made it to the headlines for clocking a bowling speed of 157.8 km/h during the Test match against Australia, died on Thursday, June 19, after falling from the balcony of his fourth-floor apartment and an investigation is in progress to figure out if it was a case of suicide. Johnson made a place for himself in the Indian team on the back of some fine performances for Karnataka in the domestic games.
During the 1995-96 Ranji Trophy session, Johnson had recorded figures of 10 for 152 against Kerala. He debuted for India in the Delhi Test against Australia in 1996. Later, he travelled to South Africa and played in the first Test. However, he had a short Test career of two matches, where he picked up three wickets.
In first-class cricket, the bowler picked up 125 wickets in 39 games averaging at 28.63 and a strike rate of 47.4. While he was a lower-order batter, Johnson had a First Class hundred. The cricketer was survived by his wife and two children.
