Former Indian batter VVS Laxman is set to be the head coach of the Indian team for the upcoming five-match T20I series in Zimbabwe beginning July 6. Similarly, 2011 World Cup winner Gautam Gambhir is expected to start his tenure as the next Indian head coach from the Sri Lanka tour.
Reports reveal that the squad for the Zimbabwe series is set to be announced by the end of this week, either on June 22 or 23. For this tour, young IPL performers, who are part of BCCI’s ‘targeted list of players,’ like Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Mayank Yadav and others are set to be picked. This group is currently at a camp under Laxman’s supervision at the NCA.

PTI quoted a BCCI source who revealed, “There is a possibility that Laxman along with some of the NCA coaches will travel with the new look squad to Zimbabwe. Laxman and the NCA team has always filled up whenever Rahul Dravid and the first team coaches have been taking periodic breaks during their stint.”
Shreyas Iyer likely to play ODIs against Sri Lanka
Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer is set to return to the Indian men’s senior team for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka. As per PTI, a BCCI source revealed that the KKR skipper is in contention to play for India against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.
The report said, “However, there is every possibility that Shreyas will travel for the three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka. The last ODI that India played was in South Africa and he scored a half-century (52). He had 500 plus runs (530) in the World Cup and averages just around 50. Can you drop him?” the source added.
