Kieran Tierney, the Scottish defender, has been ruled out of the UEFA Euro 2024 after sustaining a hamstring during their 1-1 draw in a Group A match against Switzerland at the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne. The 27-year-old suffered a hamstring injury while challenging Dan Ndoye in the second half, following which he was stretchered off.
As per the report from Sky Sports, the Scottish team management has confirmed that Kieran Tierney won’t be taking any further part in the UEFA Euro 2024 campaign. He will be returning to London to get reassessed for his hamstring injury at Arsenal.
Notably, Scott McTominay gave Scotland the lead in the 13th minute after a deflected shot from him went past Yann Sommer in the Swiss goal. Just 13 minutes later, Xherdan Shaqiri equalised with a wonderful left foot effort, beating Angus Gunn to his right.
With the 1-1 result, Scotland kept their hopes alive to make their round of 16 of a major football tournament for the first-time in their history. They will be needing to defeat Hungary in their final Group A game of the UEFA Euro 2024 at the MHPArena in Stuttgart on Sunday, June 23.
John Carver, the assistant coach of Scotland, spoke about the hamstring injury of Kieran Tierney and said, “He’s got an issue with his hamstring and is heading home to be assessed by Arsenal. They’ll give you updates as they have it, but he’s obviously extremely disappointed.”
“If we do progress and we move through the tournament, I’m sure it will be back to support us. He’s a young lad, he’s got plenty of time and he’s got to make sure that it’s right for his return,” he added.
