Players who missed a spot in India’s squad for Zimbabwe T20I series

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India’s 15-member squad for the bilateral five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. The series is set to begin on July 6, and all five matches will be played in Harare. The BCCI decided to rest players participating in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, including stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

In their absence, emerging batting star Shubman Gill has been handed over the captaincy armband. Not only this, but as many as four players have received their maiden national call-up in the upcoming series. However, a few more players who deserved a spot in the team have been ignored.

In this article, let’s have a look at a few names who were unlucky to have missed out on India’s squad for the upcoming five-match series.

Varma emerged as one of the most suitable names in the middle order. Varma didn’t play Mumbai’s final match of the season against Lucknow Super Giants due to injury, but there’s no reason why he was not selected for this series.

India’s spinning ace Yuzvendra Chahal received a call back from the selectors in the T20 World Cup 2024 after a stunning performance in the IPL 2024. However, Chahal got dropped after not playing even a single match in the ICC spectacle, which seems unreal to fans and followers. The RR bowler is known for taking wickets in crucial times and has guided the side to several victories in the past. In the 2024 edition of the IPL, Chahal scalped 18 wickets in 15 games and also scripted history by becoming the first bowler to claim 200 wickets in the tournament’s history.
