Young wicket-keeper batter from India, Ishan Kishan is among the most expensive players from the country to be sold in an IPL auction. The left-hander was picked by Mumbai Indians (MI) for ₹15.25 Crore ahead of IPL 2022. 

9. Pat Cummins – ₹15.50 Cr in IPL 2020

This is not the last time Pat Cummins is making his appearance in the list of most expensive players in IPL. The star fast bowler and the Australian skipper joined Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2020 after the franchise acquired his services for ₹15.50 Crore in the auction.

The most expensive Indian player in the league, former cricketer Yuvraj Singh, also remained the most expensive player in IPL for more than five years. The star Indian all-rounder was picked by Delhi Daredevils (now known as Delhi Capitals) for a whopping ₹16 Crore ahead of IPL 2015.

Former South African all-rounder Chris Morris, who was known for changing the course of the match with his skills from both bat and ball, turned out to be the most expensive player in IPL 2021 auction. The inaugural IPL champions Rajasthan Royals (RR) acquired the services of the Proteas star for ₹16.25 Crore in that season .

Star English all-rounder Ben Stokes, who played a monumental role in England’s maiden ODI World Cup triumph in 2019 and T20 World Cup triumph in 2022, was one of the top buys in the IPL 2023 auction. The left-hander was sold to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for ₹16.25 Crore in that season. However, it didn’t turn out to be great deal for CSK as Stokes played only two games that season and missed the rest of the tournament due to an injury.

The first player to get sold for over ₹20 Crores in an IPL auction, Australia’s 2023 World Cup winning captain Pat Cummins is the second most expensive player in IPL history. The star fast bowler was picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for a whopping ₹20.50 Crore after an intense bidding war against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2024 auction. Cummins was also appointed as the captain of the franchise and led SRH to their third IPL final in 2024.

After a successful ODI World Cup campaign for Australia in 2023, Starc was one of the big names in the IPL 2024 auction as he was appearing in the auction for the first time since 2018. And beyond every expectation, the left-arm pacer turned out to be most expensive player in IPL history surpassing his country-man Pat Cummins in the same season, after Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) acquired his services for a whopping ₹24.75 Crore in the auction. However, Starc didn’t had a great outing in the league but delivered match-winning spell in Qualifier 1 and the final and helped KKR to win their third IPL title after 10 years.
