Former England captain Michael Vaughan expressed some criticisms about the Indian team as greats like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja announced retirement from the shortest format after winning the T20 World Cup 2024. The Men in Blue took down South Africa in the final to end their 13-year World Cup drought.
After this final, three of India’s top players captain Rohit Sharma, batting great Virat Kohli and incredible Ravindra Jadeja announced retirements from the format. Addressing these retirements on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, Vaughan, stated that the Men in Blue fell short as they only won one World Cup with this trio in their ranks over the last decade.
They should have won more white-ball trophies: Vaughan
The Englishman said, “They’ll all agree that it is a perfect way to go, but they should have won more white ball trophies amongst them. To think that he (Rohit) has taken another seventeen years to get another one in his hand, I think he will be the first one to admit that they should have won one or two more.”

Michael Vaughan also spoke about how Indian cricket won’t have a replacing this incredible trio. He said, “What a way to go out with a win in Barbados and a trophy in your hand! Now they can sit back and play Test cricket, a bit of one-day cricket, and in the IPL, like MS Dhoni, play on forever. In Indian cricket, they will be replaced as there’s plenty of talent in that team.”
