ICC in favour of forensic audit about T20 World Cup financial fraud; likely to appoint external company

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is in favour of conducting a thorough forensic audit of the T20 World Cup 2024. The global cricketing governing body appointed a three-member committee, which is most likely to appoint an external company for the same. The information came a day after Roger Twose, Lawson Naidoo and Imran Khwaja were appointed by ICC to look into the matter.

According to the Times of India, the three-member committee has been given a free hand to conduct the investigation. The report further stated that the ICC members have reached a consensus with all votes being cast in favour of the investigation. The report states that the governing body suffered that the T20 World Cup 2024 hosted in the USA and West Indies, suffered financial fraud.

News18 quoted an official saying, “It was unanimously decided to give the committee a free hand to conduct the review. There is a bright possibility of an external company conducting a thorough forensic audit of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Every detail will be looked into and every transaction will be thoroughly checked.”

According to several resources, the ICC members believe that if the investigations uncover any fraud, it will affect even the highest levels of leadership. In such a case, ICC chair, Greg Barclay and CEO Geoff Allardice will be required to resign. Notably, two high-ranking officials including, Chris Tetley, who oversaw events and Claire Furlong, marketing and communications in-charge, stepped down from their roles at the ICC.
