Wilfred Rhodes. Playing his first international match in 1899, Rhodes had a three-decade long career in international cricket till 1930. He played for 30 years and 315 for England in international cricket.

Highest Test Total by a team – Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan cricket team holds the record highest-ever total in Test cricket. In a match against India in Colombo in 1997, Sri Lanka posted a record- 952/6 on board in reply to India’s 537/8. Sanath Jayasuriya (340 runs) and Roshan Mahanama (225) were the two top scorers for Sri Lanka. With this, Sri Lanka also broke England’s 59-year-old record of 903/7 in 1938. However, it wouldn’t be an easy task for any Test team to go even near Sri Lanka’s highest Test total. 

Oldest Test Captain – William Gilbert Grace

In today’s time, the cricketers mostly retire in their late 30s. However, there was a cricketer from England who captained England’s Test team in his 50s. Former cricketer Wilbert Gillbert Grace was the oldest Test captain in history. At the age of 50 years and 320 days, Grace was the captain of the England Test team.

Test cricket is known to be a game of patience where players might take few deliveries to get their first run. However, this didn’t apply on the former West Indies cricketer, Chris Gayle who smashed the first ball of a Test match for six. He achieved this feat in a Test match against Bangladesh in Dhaka on November 13, 2012.

Highest Average in Test cricket – Don Bradman

Mostly, the player with an average of 40 or 50 is considered as a great cricketer. However, Australia’s great Sir Don Bradman was far-far ahead of any of the current batters in the world in terms of average. The former cricketer finished his career with an average of 99.94 in Test cricket. However, if he could have scored just four runs in his last international match, his average would have been 100. 

Maiden Super Over – Sunil Narine

The super over is a one-over eliminator which mostly takes place in T20 cricket when both teams end up putting the same total after the match. The team ends up scoring most runs in Super over wins the match and the players look to hit every ball for boundary. However, Sunil Narine is the first and only player in history to bowl a maiden super over in cricket. The West Indies achieved this records during a Caribbean Premier League (CPL) match between Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel and Guyana Amazon Warriors in Guyana on July 17, 2014.

New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson achieved a unique record during the 2024 T20 World Cup. The Kiwi delivered four overs in a match against Papua New Guinea in Trinidad and Tobago without conceding a single run in his spell. Ferguson also took three wicket in that game registering figures of 3/0.
