Pakistan vs Bangladesh 2nd Test to be played without spectators; know why

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ahead of the Bangladesh Test series confirmed that the second Test of the two-match series will be played without spectators. The two-match Test series between the two Asian nations is set to commence on August 21 with the first Test being played in Rawalpindi from August 21 while for the second Test, the teams will move to National Stadium in Karachi from August 30.

It is to be noted that this decision from the PCB comes in regard with ongoing construction at the venue ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. It is to be noted that PCB has allocated around PKR 17 billion for upgrading its facilities in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi ahead of the ICC event.

Why has PCB opted to host second Test vs Bangladesh without spectators?

The PCB has opted to host the second Test with spectators, a move reminiscent to the COVID-19 precautionary measures. However, the board feels the construction work at the venue might hamper the experience of the fans during the Test match and has thus opted to hold the final Test with spectators. “We understand the vital role that our passionate spectators play in cricket, providing inspiration and motivation to our players. However, the health and safety of our fans is our utmost priority,” the PCB said in a statement.

“After careful consideration of all available options, we have decided that the safest course of action is to hold the second Test in front of an empty stadium,” the board stated. Meanwhile it also confirmed that those who have purchased the tickets will be refunded with immediate effect. “Fans who have already purchased tickets will receive a full refund automatically with the amount credited to the account details provided at the time of purchase,” the PCB’s statement read.
