Six minutes into the clash, t he Brazilian collided with Antoine Semenyo in the centre of the pitch before seemingly landing awkwardly on his ankle.

The pair had challenged for the ball in the air as Semenyo emerged without any injuries. But a stretcher was quickly readied for his Brazilian counterpart, who saw his foot give out as he landed from the jump. The Brazilian was quickly tended to by the medical staff as they used Forest flags to hide the injury from the crowd before he was stretchered off.

Ahead of the season, Danilo was expecting big things from himself and his team as he cited Aston Villa and Brighton as examples to push for European qualification. The Brazilian said,   “I have another five years on my contract and I can help the club to develop more.”

“It is already a big club; one with a proud history. Next season will be better. We will not be fighting to remain in the Premier League. We will be higher up the table. We can continue to grow.  Villa and Brighton represent good examples for us. We should make that our ambition – to be challenging to play in Europe,” he added.
