Smriti Mandhana joins two-time WBBL champions Adelaide Strikers

India’s opening batter and vice-captain, Smriti Mandhana has joined Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) winners, Adelaide Strikers. The Indian batter will feature in the upcoming 2025-25 WBBL season with the Strikers, who will aim to defend their title. Before the Strikers, she played for two-time winners Sydney Thunders and Brisbane Heat as well as the Hobart Hurricanes.

The left-hander is a pre-draft signing as the Blue Brigade have been trying to sign her for many seasons but failed to do so. The Mumbaikar hit the joint-highest individual score in the history of the tournament, that is 114 not out, which came against Melbourne Renegades in 2021.

Notably, the 28-year-old will work with head coach, Luke Williams. For the unversed, Williams was the head coach of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women side that lifted their maiden Women’s Premier League title in March, this year.

After her signing, Mandhana mentioned that she is thrilled to work with Williams once again. “I always look forward to playing in Australia, and I’m excited about the opportunity to contribute to a team with a history of success like the Strikers,” Mandhana said. “I’m thrilled to continue working with Luke. Our previous experiences together have been so rewarding, and I’m looking forward to building on that,” she further added.

The head coach of the Adelaide Strikers Women said that Mandhana is an exceptional talent and the team is thrilled to have her in the side. “Smriti is an exceptional talent, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the Strikers,” Williams said. “Her technical skill, experience and strategic insights are a tremendous asset for us. I know firsthand the dedication and energy she brings to the team and on the field. Her expertise and leadership will be invaluable as we drive for success in the upcoming season,” she continued.
