On Monday, June 17, Romania defeated Ukraine 3-0 in a Group E match to start their  UEFA Euro 2024  campaign on a winning note at the Allianz Arena in Munich. Nicolae Stanciu opened the scoring on the day for Romania with a right-footed stunner into the top corner, following which they scored two quick goals in the second half.

Romania showcased a counter-attacking masterclass against Ukraine, converting three out of their five shots on goal with just 28% possession. In the 29th minute, Nicolae Stanciu picked up the ball from a soft turnover before unfurling an outswinger from more than 22 yards, finding the top corner of the net past Andriy Lunin.

The second half saw Razvan Marin fire a shot first-time towards Andriy Lunin in the 53rd minute, who allowed the ball to go under his dive into the back of his net after Radu Dragusin had waved a leg at him. With a 2-0 lead, Romania became a bit adventurous in the Ukrainian half, which led to them finding a third goal just four minutes later.

Denis Dragus put the ball in the back of the net from close range after a chaotic build-up in the 57th minute, making it a 3-0 scoreline for Romania. They also went on to keep Ukrainian attackers at bay throughout the 90 minutes, ensuring a clean sheet for Florin Nita.
