Three players who could be India’s next white-ball captain after T20 World Cup 2024

The Indian team registered their spot in the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Led by seasoned opener Rohit Sharma, the Men in Blue defeated Ireland in their first fixture, followed by a win over Pakistan and then the debutants and co-hosts USA. Pooled in Group A, the 2007 winners finished as table toppers and made it to the next stage easily.

Rohit Sharma has been at the team’s helm since Virat Kohli gave up his captaincy. However, Sharma is approaching the end of his career, and someone else could replace him as skipper soon.

Hardik Pandya

Indian all-rounder and vice-captain Hardik Pandya is one of the top contenders to be India’s next white-ball captain. Pandya, who had a slump in performance during the IPL 2024, came back stronger and picked some of the most crucial wickets for the side in the T20 World Cup 2024. The 30-year-old is one of the most reliable players and can turn the tide of the game. He has led India previously in the absence of senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli and can be the next name to lead the side.

Rishabh Pant

One of the most talented and skilled players in the Indian team is wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant. The youngster made his comeback after a year of surviving a fatal accident and put on a dominating performance in the T20 World Cup 2024 so far. Pant captains Delhi Capitals in the IPL and has experience of leading a side. Not only this, but he also shares a good bond with his teammates and thus, he can be the right successor of Rohit Sharma in the limited-over format.

Jasprit Bumrah

One of the most lethal bowlers to have played for team India, Jasprit Bumrah is our third pick who can lead the side after Rohit Sharma. Bumrah is undoubtedly a match-winner, and his ability to turn around the match at any time comes in handy during crucial times. He has led the side during one of the series, and hence, he knows what it is like to lead a side.
