Ronaldinho blasts Brazil, announces boycott of ‘embarrassment’ squad ahead of Copa America 2024

Brazil and FC Barcelona legend Ronaldinho lambasted Brazil’s squad participating in Copa America ahead of the tournament. The football great said there are only average players in the squad and no real leaders. The former Ballon d’Or winner made it to the headlines with bold remarks about the national team ahead of the major tournament. Ronaldinho, a 1999 Copa America winner and 2002 World Cup winner took to his social media to say that the team ‘lacks love for the shirt’.

The 44-year-old posted a video of his interview with the YouTube channel ‘Cartoloucos’. In the caption, he wrote, “It’s difficult to find energy to watch the games.” He added, “This is maybe one of the worst teams in recent years, it has no respectable leaders, just average players for the most part. I’ve been following football since I was a kid, long before I thought about becoming a player, and I’ve never seen a situation as bad as this. There’s a lack of love for the shirt, a lack of determination and most importantly football.”

The Brazil great made a shocking announcement stating that he won’t watch even a single game of the tournament. Not only this, but he also went on to say that he won’t celebrate if Brazil wins the tournament. The former footballer wrote, “The performance has been one of the worst things I’ve ever seen. It’s a shame. That’s why I declare I’m giving up here. I won’t watch any CONMEBOL Copa América games and I won’t celebrate if Brazil wins.”

In the interview, the former Paris Saint-Germain said that Real Madrid star Vinícius Júnior deserves to emulate that individual feat in 2024, where he helped Los Blancos to a La Liga and Champions League double wins. Notably, Brazil’s biggest draws for the tournament are  Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo.
