The 2028 Los Angeles Olympics announced the change of its venue plan while saying that it will create an estimated $156 million in combined services. Not only this, but the organisers also announced that the canoe slalom and softball competitions for the next season of the global tournament will be held in Oklahoma City. The organisers also announced that athletics will shift to the opening week of the sporting spectacle while swimming will move to second.
Swimming will be held at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood with a seating capacity of 38,000 making it the largest swimming venue in history. As per the plan, basketball matches will be played at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, whereas gymnastic events are set to be played at Crypto.com Arena in downtown LA. Athletics, on the other hand, will remain at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
Notably, the tournament is set to be held from July 14-30, 2028, and while the opening and closing ceremonies remain unchanged, the schedule for athletics and swimming will be changed. According to LA28, the decision to move canoe slalom and softball to Oklahoma City came after the absence of suitable venues for either sport in Southern California.
In a news release, the organisers said, “Instead of undertaking additional construction projects to build temporary venues for these sports, LA28 will assign Canoe Slalom and Softball competitions to the world-class venues in Oklahoma City.”
