Virat Kohli T20I career: Stats, Records, Wins, and More

On Saturday, June 29, Virat Kohli, the Indian cricketing superstar, fulfilled his destiny by winning the T20 World Cup trophy for the first-time in his illustrious career. The 35-year-old was a part of the Indian cricket team, who defeated South Africa by seven runs in a last over thriller, to clinch an ICC title for the first-time in 11 years.

Shortly after this jaw-dropping triumph, Virat Kohli, who was declared the player of the T20 World Cup 2024 final, announced his retirement from the shortest format of the game at the international level. He ended his T20I career as the second highest run-scorer behind his teammate and the current Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who also decided to hang up his boots in the format.

In the T20I format, Virat Kohli saved his best performances in Indian colours for the T20 World Cup after playing the first one in 2012. He won the player of the tournament twice in his six appearances, during the 2014 and 2016 editions, scoring 319 and 273 runs respectively, but India fell short of winning the title in the knockout stages on both the occasions.

Virat Kohli has most fifty plus scores in T20I cricket, 39 in total, while he was also the fastest to 3,500 runs in the format, in just 96 innings. The right-handed batter managed to win 16 player of the match and seven player of the series awards in T20Is, the most among all cricketers in the world.

With the big win in the Indian colours last night, Virat Kohli also became the first player in history to grab hold of the U-19 Cricket World Cup, ODI World Cup, Champions Trophy, and the T20 World Cup trophies.
