The Indian cricket team won the T20 World Cup 2024 title after defeating South Africa by seven runs in the final at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. There were a lot of great performances from the players of all the participating teams in the T20 World Cup 2024, but at the same time, many others struggled in the weight of expectations, not being able to showcase the best of their skills.

Openers: Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Reeza Hendricks
Although Pakistan played on tough batting pitches in the USA during the T20 World Cup 2024, Mohammad Rizwan was getting bogged down in the powerplay stage against every opposition, scoring runs at a strike-rate of just 90.90 in four innings. Reeza Hendricks got just 112 runs in nine innings during the South African campaign in the tournament, at an average of just 14.12, while his strike-rate was under 90 runs per 100 balls.
Middle Order: Mitchell Marsh, Kane Williamson (c), Fakhar Zaman, Shakib Al Hasan
The captain of Australia, Mitchell Marsh, was quiet with the bat in the T20 World Cup 2024, scoring just 125 runs at an average of 20.83 and a strike-rate of just 116.82, while he didn’t opt to bowl either. Kane Williamson had an uninspiring tournament with the bat as captain for New Zealand, who bowed out of the tournament from the group stage after he scored just 28 runs in three innings.
Fakhar Zaman got just 33 runs in four innings for Pakistan during their forgettable T20 World Cup 2024 campaign at an average of just 8.25. Shakib Al Hasan, the Bangladesh legend, was far from effective with the bat and the ball for the team despite their qualification in the Super 8 stage of the tournament, scoring 111 runs in seven innings at the strike-rate of 106.73, picking up only three wickets.
Lower Middle Order: Liam Livingstone, Ravindra Jadeja
Liam Livingstone got 72 runs at an average of 18 for England in the T20 World Cup 2024, which ultimately didn’t prove to be enough for the team despite a good strike-rate of 146.93, while picking up three wickets with the ball in eight matches as well. Ravindra Jadeja, who got the T20 World Cup 2024 winner’s medal after India defeated South Africa in the final, didn’t have the best of tournaments individually, struggling to make a telling impact with the bat, ball, and in the field.
Tailenders: Mitchell Starc, Shaheen Afridi, Mark Wood
In his five appearances, Mitchell Starc conceded runs at a very high economy of 8.55 in five innings in the T20 World Cup 2024, when some of his counterparts were going at around half his rate, while taking just five wickets. Shaheen Afridi was not quite in rhythm except for the spell against Canada, when Pakistan were already eliminated from the tournament, picking up five wickets in four matches.
Mark Wood had only one notable performance in the T20 World Cup 2024, registering figures of 3/12, but in the remaining four matches, he was unable to take any other wicket.
