WATCH: Sharjeel and Akmal stitch 145-run opening stand against India Champions in WCL 2024

After a delayed start to the 8th match of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2024, the Pakistan Champions openers, Sharjeel Khan and Kamran Akmal, smashed the India Champions bowlers all over the Edgbaston in Birmingham, on Saturday, July 6. These two Pakistani batters completed their respective fifties before putting together a 145-run stand for the first wicket.

For the unversed, Yuvraj Singh, the captain of the India Champions, won the toss and decided to field first amidst inclement weather in Birmingham. The star-studded bowling lineup for the India Champions had their task cut out on a belter of a pitch and a greasy outfield at the Edgbaston.

Sharjeel Khan and Kamran Akmal matched each other stroke for stroke in the powerplay stage against the likes of RP Singh, Anureet Singh, and Dhawal Kulkarni. In the middle overs, they took down spinners Harbhajan Singh, Pawan Negi, and Suresh Raina before Irfan Pathan went the distance for 25 runs in his first over.

Following the completion of their respective fifties, both the Pakistan Champions openers kept the momentum of the innings going. Sharjeel Khan lost his wicket to Anureet Singh, but not before he scored 72 off 30 with seven fours and five maximums.

As of this writing, at the end of 13 overs, the Pakistan Champions have scored 177/1 with Kamran Akmal on 73 off 38 with nine fours and four maximums. He is batting alongside Sohaib Maqsood, who is 24 off 10 with one four and three maximums.
