“Thanks for the compliment…” – Saina Nehwal hits back after being called ‘Kangana Ranaut of sports’

Indian badminton star Saina Nehwal took down social media trolls with a witty comment after she was called the ‘Kangana Ranaut of sports’ for her recent comments. The former world number has been active on social media and shared her often strong opinions on the recently concluded Paris Olympics 2024.

But Saina has received a lot of flack as she made an honest admission during the interview revealing she didn’t know that the Javelin Throw was a part of the Olympic Games until India’s Neeraj Chopra’s gold medal at the Tokyo Games in 2021.

The comment led to the shuttler getting trolled on social media and called the ‘Kangana Ranaut of sports.’ Responding to the trolls, Saina Nehwal took to X (formerly Twitter) and shared,  “Thanks for the compliment… Kangana is beautiful…but I had to be perfect in my sport and I proudly achieved world number 1 and Olympic medal in badminton for my country …again I will say this ghar pe bait ke comment karna easy hai and sports khelna difficult (sitting at home and commenting is easy but playing sports isn’t). Neeraj is our superstar and he made the sport so popular in India.”

Speaking on a podcast, Nehwal said, “When Neeraj won [the Tokyo gold in 2021], that’s when I got to know there is such an event in athletics.”
