Raksha Bandhan Special: Siblings who have played same sport at international level

In sports, we have seen several siblings who have been able to represent their country in the same sport over the years. There have been several moments where the sibling pairs have registered some of the greatest moments in the history of sports. On the occasion of Rakshabandhan , here are some of the most famous siblings who have played in same sport at international level.

Irfan Pathan and Yusuf Pathan – Cricket

One of the most famous brother duo in India in a game of cricket. both Irfan Pathan and Yusuf Pathan have represented the Indian cricket team together. Irfan was a left-arm fast bowling all-rounder while Yusuf was also an all-rounder and a fierce batter who was known for his aggressive batting. Both brothers have achieved significant milestones for India where Irfan Pathan won the 2007 T20 World Cup with India while Yusuf Pathan was a part of the team that won the 2011 ODI World Cup.

Serena and Venus Williams – Tennis

Serena Williams and Venus Williams are the famous sister duo in world tennis. Serena is one of the greatest tennis players in the world, who has won 23 Grand Slam titles in her career. On the other hand, Venus has also established herself as a tennis legend, who has 49 titles to her including seven Grand Slam titles. 

Bob and Mike Bryan – Tennis

Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan are two of the most famous brother duo in world tennis. The former tennis players are one of the most successful duos in the sport. Both started playing tennis at age of six years. Bob has won 119 titles while Mike has won 124 titles in his tennis career. 

Henrik and Daniel Sedin – Hockey

Henrik Sedin and Daniel Sedin are the two identical twin brothers who have represented Germany in ice hockey. Both were picked by Vancouver Canucks in the 1999 National hockey league draft. 

Mitchell Marsh and Shaun Marsh – Cricket

Mitchell Marsh and Shaun Marsh are another famous sibling pair in cricket. Both have been a part of the Australian cricket team. However, Shaun has now retired while Mitchell still plays professional cricket and is the captain of the Australian team in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The Marsh brothers have achieved significant milestones for Australia throughout the years.

Krunal and Hardik Pandya – Cricket

Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya have been a part of the Indian cricket team and is another sibling pair to play in same sport at international level. However, Krunal hasn’t been seen playing for India since 2021, while Hardik has established himself as one of the premium all-rounders in the Indian cricket team. He played a monumental role in India’s T20 World Cup victory in 2024.  

Phogat Sisters – Wrestling

One of the most famous wrestling families, the Phogat sisters have made a significant image in wrestling. Born to the former Indian wrestler Mahavir Phogat, Geeta, Babita, Reetu and Sangeeta also made their career in wrestling and went on to make India proud at international level. Along with this, their cousin sisters Vinesh and Priyanka Phogat have also represented India in wrestling. Geeta won India’s first ever gold medal in wrestling during the 2010 Olympics, followed by her younger sister Babita who added another gold in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Dhyan Chand and Roop Singh – Hockey

Indian hockey legend Dhyan Chand is well known among hockey fans in India and all over the world. However, his younger brother Roop Singh had also been impressive as player of the Indian hockey team. The two brothers were together a part of the Indian hockey team that won consecutive gold medal in 1932 and 1936 Olympics respectively. 

Rahul and Dola Banerjee – Archery

The brother-sister duo of Rahul and Dola Banerjee has represented India in archery. Both won a gold medal each in their respective event in the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Apart from that, Rahul is also a bronze medalist in the 2010 Asian Games. While Dola won the 2007 Archery World Cup and bronze medal in an individual event of the 2010 Commonwealth Games and 2010 Asian Games. 

Singh Sisters – Basketball

The four sisters Prashanti Singh, Divya Singh, Akanksha Singh and Pratima Singh have represented the Indian national women’s basketball team and are known as the basketball family of India. Prashanti was honoured with the Arjuna Award in 2017 and the Padma Shri in 2019. She has 22 medals to her name in the National championships, National games and Federation Cup of India together. Apart from that, Divya Singh is the former captain of the Indian women’s basketball team and led the Indian team in the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Akanksha has also been a part of the National Women’s basketball, while the younger sister Pratima still represents India Women in basketball.
