HS Prannoy takes indefinite break from badminton citing Chikungunya

HS Prannoy, the Indian badminton star, has taken an indefinite break from the sport due to Chikungunya. The 32-year-old spoke about feeling persistent pain in his battle against Chikungunya in the recent months, which prevented him from competing at his best, and that’s why he has withdrawn his name from a few upcoming BWF tournaments, to focus on his recovery.

Notably, HS Prannoy last played professional badminton during the Paris Olympics 2024,  reaching the round of 16 where he lost to fellow Indian Lakshya Sen. During this one-sided match, he lost with a scoreline of 21-12, 21-6 as Lakshya Sen dominated him right throughout.

The bronze medalist at Asian Games and World Championships was one of the medal contenders in the Paris Games, but his illness didn’t allow him to play at his best.
