Mohamed Salah confirms final year at Liverpool after scoring in 3-0 win over Manchester United in Premier League

On Sunday, September 1, Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah confirmed that the ongoing 2024-25 Premier League is his last with the Merseyside club. After scoring the third goal in the 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford, the 32-year-old spoke about wanting to enjoy his last year at Liverpool with no new contract in sight.

Notably, on their trip to Old Trafford, Liverpool ran rampant against Manchester United with Luis Diaz scoring a brace within seven minutes in the first half. Mohamed Salah tripled the advantage for Liverpool with a goal in the second half before they saw out the game quite comfortably.

This is my last year with the club and I want to enjoy it: Mohamed Salah

In a post-match chat with Sky Sports, Mohamed Salah alluded to his future at Liverpool and said, “I had a good summer, a long time to stay with myself and think positively a bit, this is my last year with the club and I want to enjoy it. I feel I am free to play football — we will see what happens next year. Nobody in the club has talked to me about contracts. It is not up to me, it is up to the club.”

Moreover, the newly appointed Liverpool manager Arne Slot became the first one in his position since Bob Paisley in November 1975, to register a win in his first match against Manchester United. He is only the second Liverpool manager to achieve this feat away from home after George Kay from November 1936.

After the first three matches in the new Premier League campaign, Liverpool are in second place with three straight wins. Manchester City are in first place with more goals scored despite the same number of wins.
