Alzarri Joseph loses cool; throws ball back at Shimron Hetmyer during CPL 2024

T20 cricket season is underway in several parts of the world. While England is hosting their arch-rivals, Australia in a three-match T20I series, the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 is also being hosted in the Caribbean Islands. The league has however, reached its halfway mark, it has surely provided some thrilling action, both on and off the field for fans and cricket enthusiast alike.

In match number 10 of the CPL 2024 which was played between the Saint Lucia Kings and Guyana Amazon Warriors at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, West Indies international, Alzarri Joseph was once again seen fuming in anger. The moment came in the ninth over of the Guyana Amazon Warriors inning as they neared victory.

Chasing a target of 101 runs, the Faf du Plessis-led side recalled the West Indies pacer into the attack. While he conceded only one run from the first three deliveries, he dismissed Azam Khan on the fourth delivery. After Khan’s dismissal, Hetmyer took the guards for the Amazon Warriors. However, he opted for no run on the first delivery, Joseph was seen fuming in anger as he grabbed the ball and tried it to hit the stumps.

Although the Caribbean pacer gave a good stare at Shimron Hetmyer following the incident, the latter then smashed the 27-year-old Antiguan cricketer for a massive six over long on, giving a befitting reply to the moment that occurred just moments prior.

However, the Warriors didn’t had to wait much as they registered an easy win in the very next over, chasing the modest 101 runs total in just 10 overs. While Hetmyer remained unbeaten at eight off three balls, the video of the moment is now doing rounds on social media. 

Speaking of the league so far, the Guyana Amazon Warriors are comfortably sitting at second place with three wins from four matches, Faf du Plessis-led Saint Lucia Kings are at fourth place with three wins from five matches. The latter will next take on Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in match number 17 at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet on September 16 (IST), whereas the Guyana Amazon Warriors will lock horns with Kieron Pollard-led Trinbago Knight Riders in match 19 of CPL 2024 at the Queen’s Park Oval at Port of Spain in Trinidad on September 19 (IST).
